Here's what Maria Teresa wore from 1-7 May:
- Attending the beatification of John Paul II in Rome, 1 May. Exercising her privilège du blanc beside Grand Duke Henri with the Prince and Princess of Asturias to the left and Prince Hans-Adam II and Princess Marie Aglaë of Liechtenstein to the right. Loads of royals turned up for this event: in the second row, we find Princess Margaretha of Luxembourg (Henri's sister) and her husband Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein (brother of Hans-Adam and Liechtenstein's non-resident ambassador to the Holy See), along with Maria Teresa's sons Guillaume, the Hereditary Grand Duke, and Prince Louis. Hidden in the third row are Margaretha and Nikolaus's two daughters, Maria-Anunciata and Marie-Astrid.
The Duchess of Gloucester came with the Duke to represent the Queen, and Queen Paola (alongside King Albert) was the only other lady in attendance with privilège du blanc. Only Queen Sofia, Queen Fabiola, Queen Paola, and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa get to wear white in the presence of the Pope: it's a very exclusive club.
So elegant, these ladies and their veils.
